Seafarer Balaclava or cowl with Jamie B



This hood or cowl works up quickly and is incredibly warm and squishy.  A perfect accessory or gift for all your cold climate friends of family.  It's never too early to start those 2026 Christmas presents!!

Project uses Aran or Chunky weight yarn approx 300 yds (or worsted weight double stranded 600 yards).  Less yardage is used for just the cowl without the hood, approx 200-240 yards.

Pattern will need to be purchased on Ravelry.  Seafarer Balaclava by Vanessa Ewing, $6.  Pattern modifications for a cowl will be provided in class.

US 8, 9 or 10 size 24" and 16" circular knitting needle.

Locking-type stitch markers.  Extra long cable or thin smooth yarn for lifeline (used as holder for hood border stitches while knitting).  Darning/Tapestry needle for kitchener stitch.


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Must already know how to do basic knit stitches. Will learn k1b and p1b and associated decreases (for fisherman's rib). We will be knitting in the round and then flat for hood. Depending on your preference we will be finishing with Kitchener stitch (grafting) or a version of 3-needle bindoff.
