Crochet 2025: A Year of Growth & Gratitude with Barb C.

For 2025 we will be crocheting a different flower, insect, or plant each month. These cute growing things are all creatures or plants that I am grateful for. This year we are using the book '100 flowers to knit & crochet' by Lesley Stanfield. The shop has the book in stock. May will be the radish on page 82. As an added bonus we will be teaching how to translate UK crochet terminology to US terminology throughout the class as the book is in UK terminology.
Growing up in Alaska we always had a big garden every summer. I was known for making huge salads for the annual summer gathering. One of my favorite ingredients was the home grown radishes. I loved to slice them thin and add them to the salad. Radishes come in great colors to add to your salad. They are just as fun when you make them in yarn.
The book calls for stranded embroidery wool or sock weight yarn in white, pale pink, deep pink, and two shades of green. I made mine with sock/fingering weight Anne cotton yarn. You could also alter the colors to match any radishes you like. You can choose any weight yarn you want to use with the smallest recommended hook size for the selected yarn. We will discuss yarn choices and hook sizes in class. There are many options available. Please bring your chosen yarn and hooks with you to class along with tapestry needle and scissors.
I plan on putting together a wreath of all of my class creations so that by the end of the year I will have a lovely decorated crochet wreath for my home.
