Crochet 2025: A Year of Growth & Gratitude with Barb C.

For 2025 we will be crocheting a different flower, insect, or plant each month. These cute growing things are all creatures or plants that I am grateful for. This year we are using the book '100 flowers to knit & crochet' by Lesley Stanfield. The shop has the book in stock. April will be the narcissus on page 85. There will also be a four leaf clover option. As an added bonus we will be teaching how to translate UK crochet terminology to US terminology throughout the class as the book is in UK terminology.
Narcissus is another name for the Daffodil. I grew up in rural Alaska and it was too cold in my region to grow daffodils. When I moved to the lower 48, I discovered daffodils which bloomed in the spring. I was absolutely enthralled with their cheery blooms that would sometimes grow alongside banks of snow. I found myself looking forward to their blooms during the cold winter. I was always grateful for their appearance in the Spring in Utah, because it signaled the end of the snowy, cold, winter.
The book calls for dk cotton in pale green, orange and yellow. I made mine with sock/fingering weight Anne cotton yarn. You could also alter the colors to be white and yellow to match with different varieties of daffodil. You can choose any weight yarn you want to use with the smallest recommended hook size for the selected yarn. We will discuss yarn choices and hook sizes in class. There are many options available. Please bring your chosen yarn and hooks with you to class along with tapestry needle and scissors.
I plan on putting together a wreath of all of my class creations so that by the end of the year I will have a lovely decorated crochet wreath for my home.
