Knit Fair Isle Tam

Learn how easy it is to knit Fair Isle color work and learn lots of extra techniques.Everyone loves these traditional looking patterns worked in fun new colors. You will use only 2 colors for these hats, so one variegated and one solid looks great, or use one space dyed with a solid as shown.  Hats are great quick projects for learning a new technique.  The results are lovely and what a great gift idea! Be sure to see the samples in the shop.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Must know knit and purl and have knit in the round. We will cover knitting with two colors, corrugated ribbing, decreases and best blocking techniques for tams. The pattern provides three different designs for the color work.
Requirements: Please print the free pattern from Knitty.com. The pattern is "Three Tams" by Angela Sizian Wu. U.S. size 4 and 6 needles circular in 16 inch. Also size 6 in DPNs for finishing. Wool yarns are strongly recommended for better blocking. You will need at least 120 yards each of 2 highly contrasting colors. If using a variegated, be sure the solid color is a contrast to every color in the variegated. Tonals or space dyed and long color runs work very well in these patterns. I was able to get 2 hats from 2 skeins of Malabrigo Rios by switching the placement of the colors. Please be sure to bring your stitch markers. Highlighter tape is useful for marking rows on the color chart.
