Guest Instructor--Duplicate Stitch

Homework:

Using your lighter colored yarn, CO 45 sts.

Knit 6 rows of garter stitch.

Row 1 (WS): K5, P35, K5

Row 2 (RS): Knit

Work last 2 rows until you almost have a square. Work Row 1 once more. Knit 6 rows and bind off. Lightly block your swatch so that it isn’t curling. Bring swatch to class and have CC yarn ready to go.

Single ply worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors (Yarn doesn’t have to be single ply, but it is a lot easier to learn on single plied yarn.). About 40 yards of MC and 20 yards of CC will be plenty. Neither yarn should be dark (no black), but both yarns should be highly contrasting light colors. Think pink/yellow, medium blue/cream, orange/green combinations. 16-inch circular needle or straight needles that match with your yarn. Yarn suggested is Malabrigo Worsted Merino. Needle suggested for this yarn is a size 9, but you want a slightly tighter fabric so use a needle one size smaller than you would normally use for your chosen yarn. Scissors, pencil, paper for notes, blunt tip sewing/tapestry needle, and locking stitch markers. Something to help you keep track of your chart – either highlighter tape or post it notes are recommended.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Knitter must be able to read their St. st. fabric (count rows and stitches).
Instructor: Krista Ann
Instructor Bio: My name is Krista Ann and I am a nomadic knitter! I live in a 26-foot travel trailer full time with my husband and our fur baby, Phinny. Currently we are traveling all over the US - with occasional international trips when they work into the schedule. I am a professional knitter and dip my needles into countless projects. I knit for the film industry (Stranger Things, The Mindy Project, Annabelle Comes Home, etc) I am a knitting pattern designer, I'm working on several books with major publications, I write for Interweave Magazine, and I occasionally whip up sample knits for yarn companies. My days are never the same and never boring! My newest project is a knitting app called The Knitting Rockstar Academy. This is a membership app that has lots of knitting and fiber related content. Some of the courses currently inside the app are Full Project Tutorials (step by step videos for lots of projects starting from gauge to weaving in tails), an Abbreviation List (continental and English videos for knitting abbreviations), Techniques and Skills (learn brioche, duplicate stitch, etc), Tips and Tricks (short videos with fun tips for knitters to enjoy), and so much more. One of the courses is a Fibery Fun section. This is a place where I create content from our nomadic adventures. Anything from yarn shop tours, dye studio tours with indie dyers, visits to fiber farms or wool festivals, and sit downs chats with fiber artists. Starting in January 2024, I am embarking on a massive Knitting Across America project. Each month I feature a new state. All month long, there will be new content uploaded including a pattern inspired by that state (along with full project tutorials), a feature on a local dyer of that state, yarn events or festivals that happen while I'm in town, and anything else fibery and fun that my members would enjoy. Every month will have new and different content from my time visiting that state. Along with this project, I will also be teaching at local yarn shops and knitting guilds as often as I can. My goal is to teach at at least one yarn shop in all 50 states. I also want to visit as many fiber farms, mills, yarn shops, indie dyers, yarn companies, and fiber artists along the way and bring their stories to the ears and eyes of my members. All of the content will be uploaded to The Knitting Rockstar Academy app. Clips from the courses will be posted to my Instagram as well as my YouTube channel. Members of TKRA have been loving what content is already available and they are excited for the launch of the big Knitting Across America adventure!
