Tablet Weaving
Weave a sturdy band that can be used for a book mark, key chain, leash, purse strap, camera strap, etc. This is an inexpensive way to learn about weaving without a loom. With this type of weaving you can create an infinite number of pattern designs, and it is a very portable project you can do anywhere. We will discuss books and on line materials that are available for further exploration and patterns for this craft. A table woven band is slightly thicker and sturdier than an inkle band in the same fiber.
This will be an all day class so you are asked to bring a sack lunch and drink (refrigerator is available).
Skill Level: | Beginner |
Skill Details: | No prior weaving skill required. |
Requirements: | Cotton or other smooth yarn in 2-3 colors in a dk or smaller weight, no more than 50 yds of each color. There are several cotton choices in the shop, all should be the same weight. Thick cotton will produce a wider, thicker band. (If using DMC perle cotton in size 3 is great, at least 3 hanks of DMC of a dark color and 2 of a lighter color should be enough) One set of cards or tablets and a band shuttle with a beveled edge available for purchase at the shop, or use ones you already have. We also use one or two large pin type stitch holders for keeping the cards in order when transporting the project. Two clamps either C-clamps or bar clamps are necessary. Also, please bring a long shoe lace. Pattern and handouts will be provided with class. Suggest bringing a sack lunch and drink for this all day class (refrigerator available). |
