Weaving Inkle Bands -BarbaraP
Learn to weave bands on our loom or yours. Bands can be used for a book mark, key chain, leash, purse handle, camera strap, guitar strap, shoe laces, etc. Bands can also be sewn together into fabric for purses, vests, chair seats, cushions, baskets, etc.
Pattern and hand outs will be provided.
Requires THREE COLORS of thread/yarn. Outer selvedge color will also be used as weft, so you will need extra of that color.
Best yarns for learning band weaving are smooth, strong and relatively inelastic. Perle cotton or mercerized cotton works well in size 3/2 or 5/2 or a sport weight tightly spun yarn.
Focus will be on warping the loom, correct steps for weaving a band, maintaining even selvedges and pattern reading. Weaving might not be finished during class time. Speak with Dottie about loom availability and rental if you wish to use the shops loom and take it home.
We will warp the loom in the morning, please plan to bring a sack lunch and a drink, then we will weave in the afternoon. End time of class is flexible.
Experienced inkle weavers can warp for a pick up pattern. Pick up pattern provided requires 4 colors.
Speak with Barbara about yarn options.
We will discuss other books or websites that are available for further exploration and patterns for this craft. We will also discuss finishing techniques for making various projects.
